We recently caught up with Gabriel Gimenez to discuss his artistic journey and NFTs. Our last interview was published on February 22, 2021 which can be read at the link below.

The NFT/digital art space has been a wild rollercoaster. Almost all collectors have experienced “rug pulls” or scams. Although NFTs empower artist a lot people used the medium as a means to get rich quick. Thousands of so called artist sprung up over night, some anonymous and some who plagiarized work of real artist.

GG was an artist prior to NFTs and he continues to create no matter what the market conditions are. He creates for the love of creativity and the passion that he has for art can be seen through his physical work, digital NFTs or even through his documentaries.

The NFT market has matured over the past year and has gained legitimacy thanks to artist like Gabriel Gimenez. They are linking the traditional art world which has been around for hundreds of years with a new, digital realm.

Exclusive Interview:

“WHO THE F#%K WANTS TO LOOK AT ART ON SCREENS? II” is dropping December 8th, 2022 on Nifty Gateway. What does this NFT drop mean to you?

“Who the F#%k Wants to Look at Art on Screens? II” is part of a series of works that I’ve been conceptualizing for a long time. I think that the idea of the collection is very relevant to the current times and it’s exciting to see the body of work finally come out and have the public experience it.

The idea is for this body of work is to extended over three parts which means that once collection number 2 is out I’ll be one step closer to completing the full series and sharing the complete body of work.

Working in the digital space has been a very exciting journey for me. It has given me the tools to share ideas that for practical reasons those ideas would have taken longer to come out and this collection is one of those.

The short documentary you created “WWFDWNFT — Chapter 1: The Dawn of the Imagination Age” has received great feedback and praise. Do you have any plans on working on more animations with the character Fado if the opportunity presented itself?

Thank you, the documentary has truly been one of the most important projects I have ever done. So many people have enjoyed it and the project continues to grow. Im hoping to start working on the editing of the second episode of the documentary series soon.

Yeah 100%. I would love to continue stretching the character both conceptually and aesthetically using animation.

The NFT/digital art space has been under constant criticism over the past year and the initial hype has died down. However there is still a strong NFT/digital art community who has stuck around to build and invest in artistic visions. What are the most positive trends in the industry?

This is a great question. I think that one of the most positive things that I have noticed is that people have been working hard at creating powerful and unique IRL experiences.

Something else that I have noticed is that collectors, artists and curators from the traditional art world are continuing to enter the space, as well as new players from other industries. It seems like a lot of people were just waiting for the hype to die down and understand how to properly approach space. Its exciting to see that the space is growing!

“Clash of the Titans” @ W1Curates London

“Clash of the Titans” was recently hosted at the W1Curates in London. Fado came to life on the big screen and hundreds of people enjoyed your digital art for the first time. How important are physical galleries that show digital art?

“Clash of the Titans” @ W1Curates London

For me is extremely important that my work has a presence in the physical space even if the ideas are digital native.

W1 Curates, in my opinion has been doing the best job at curating and consistently showcasing top digital art and fashion exhibitions in physical spaces. The quality of their screens is outstanding and their team is remarkable. Big shout out to the W1 family.

Do you have any personal NFT/art projects that have impressed you over the past year?

Definitely, there are many but off the top of my head I really enjoyed the work that Tina Ziegler & AVATA are doing with digital fashion, Whisbe did a great job with the Vandalz artist collaboration, DefacedStudio is creating dope works combined with an interesting use of physical poppets and finally I like what NFN Kalyan and IV Gallery are doing with the Decentralizers project.
